The managing director is Kelly Zitzmann — the same person who runs Bitly Europe GmbH at the same address (operator of qr-code-generator.com). Both belong to the US-based Bitly group. Using "the free German Monkey generator" therefore implicitly means a business relationship with a Bitly subsidiary.

QRTool is an independent Swiss provider operated by Kernbrand AG in Gossau SG. Hosting and data processing occur exclusively in Switzerland — no data transfer abroad.

Static vs. dynamic — the core difference

QRCodeMonkey is primarily a free generator for static QR codes. These work like a printed image: the target URL is encoded into the code and cannot be changed after printing. There is no tracking. For many use cases, this is entirely sufficient — for example Wi-Fi credentials on a card or a vCard business card.

The two tools address different needs: QRCodeMonkey is an excellent free generator for one-time static QR codes and remains fully recommendable in this function. QRTool is the right choice as soon as dynamic QR codes with tracking, account management, and Swiss data protection are required — already in the permanent free plan.
